End of an Era - Cave House and Business for Sale

Sorry that I have been quiet on the blog for some time now - I have been busy with other projects such as building my new website Hand Fans by Kate Dengra and planning a new and exciting move to the Almeria coast.

My sister and her family have also had an exciting opportunity to move into a cave house of their own in Castillejar so Mum & Dad have decided the time is right to sell 'Cueva Pedro BnB & Guest House' and downsize to a smaller cave home in the same area.

Also today, on Place in the Winter Sun, Channel 4 at 2.10pm UK time, they are featuring the cave homes of this area (and my friend Ailis) and the business Spanish Inland Properties (with whom we originally bought our cave from 10 years ago and are currently selling our cave home with).

So many exciting new ventures for us all that 2014 is set to be a busy year!!!

Cueva Pedro ***295,000 Euros***

Set in arguably one of the best positions in the pretty little town of Castillejar, 800 metres above sea level in the "real Spain" in the area known as the "Altiplano de Granada", Cueva Pedro is in a quiet spot with an enviable view over the whole town, yet is only a 10 minute walk to all the amenities one would expect to find in a rural Spanish town. There are numerous bars (all offering free tapas with each drink purchased), 2 banks each with cash dispensers, 2 supermarkets, 2 D-I-Y stores, 2 butchers, 2 bread/cake shops, a gym, a doctors surgery and a dentist. There is a weekly market on a Saturday where one can buy beautiful, seasonal fruit and vegetables, pots and pans and other household goods. There is also a fish market twice a week. During the summer, there is a magnificent, municipal outdoor swimming pool on the edge of the village, with bar and restaurant.

Cueva Pedro offers very versatile accommodation and is presently used as 3 separate, but inter connecting, dwellings housing 3 generations of the same family, with the added bonus of 2 entirely separate en suite guest rooms.

The access road is very good and there is a large, south facing front with numerous terraces, some shady, some in full sun all pet and child friendly, being entirely fenced with double gates to the outside road. In this area there is a fully equipped bar/TV room, an above ground splash pool, private roof terrace and built in barbecue with storage. There is a laundry room accessed from outside which houses the washer, dryer and freezer and also a large, fully shelved and secure store room.

Consists of: entrance with bathroom (bath/shower/washbasin and WC) off
Through to sitting room with recess containing large log burner. Off this room are 2 double bedrooms one with storage (hanging space/shelves) stretching over the length of a whole wall, and the kitchen with fridge, built in electric oven, halogen hob and extractor. There is also a pantry off the kitchen. The kitchen leads directly to the large dining room (formerly where the donkeys were kept) with feature fireplace and the original pig pen, curently used as a Wendy House! The dining room is large enough to seat 16 people.

Casa Cabras and Casa Gallinas (The goats' and the chicken houses) have been reformed, as their names suggest, from former animal housing. Each has its own separate entrance, leading off from a private courtyard, and en suite shower room.

Leading off from the sitting room in Cueva Pedro is another large room, currently used as a nursery, a passageway with double bedroom off with ample storage, leading in turn to the "snug". From here, the end of the cave, there are steps to the outside build where you will find a large, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with bath, shower, WC and washbasin and a further double bedroom. The back door leads to a shady patio, shared with Cueva Libelula.

Leading off from the dining room in Cueva Pedro is a double bedroom, with a door leading to a passageway with bathroom (bath/shower/WC and washbasin) off. Off this passageway, there is a further small room large enough for a small bed and a recessed area housing a double bed. The passageway leads to a "snug" and a tunnel with ample storage, currently used as a walk-in wardrobe. From this area, the back of the cave, there are steps to the outside build where you will find a large fully fitted kitchen/sitting/family room with large open fire. Here, the back door leads to the patio which is shared with Cueva Andrea.

From the shared patio there is a gateway to the outside with a shady car port, flower borders, and through another gate to a large, secure, fully shelved store room.

Hot water is powered by solar with back up gas boilers. There is satellite TV throughout the caves and wifi.

So, all in all, a beautiful property with a total of 9 possible bedrooms and 5 bathrooms!
